For a room of people
Everyone picks a number
The rule says which number wins, and every rule depends on what everybody else picks. To aim at a third of the average you have to predict what the room will pick, which means predicting what the room predicts about itself.
There is nothing to install and nobody signs up. The link is the only key, so keep the host link: it is the only way back into the room.
The rules on offer
- Closest to a fraction of the average. At a third, the average cannot be more than a third of itself unless somebody is wrong, so the only number the whole room can hold is nought. Rooms do not start there. Play it twice and watch where the second round lands.
- Closest to a fraction of the middle number. The same game, except that one person answering a million does not drag the target with them.
- The lowest number nobody else picked. One wins if you are the only person to pick it, which is why several people will. Some rounds have no winner.
- The highest number nobody else picked.
- The highest number below the average. Going high wins until everybody goes high.
- The number the most people pick. The opposite of the two rules above: here you are trying to pick what others pick, and nobody wins if no two people agree.
- The number furthest from everybody else's. Measured by the distance to the nearest other pick, so a clever number that somebody else also picked is worth nothing.
- The highest number, if the room's total stays under the limit. Ask for a lot and the room gets nothing.
How it goes
- You open a room and put the join link on the wall.
- You start a round: a rule and a range.
- Everyone picks a number on their phone. Nobody sees anybody else's, including you, because this screen may be the one on the wall.
- You reveal. Everybody sees every number at once, and who won.
